Memorial Day

They are not Just Numbers

In this months issue I want to give you some numbers to think about. They are 405,399 – 33,686 – 58,209 and 5,443. These numbers total up to 502,737 or about a half a million. But what exactly do these numbers represent?
Some may think they are a bunch of great scratch off winnings, or some overpaid baseball players monthly salary, or maybe how many miles you wish you could put on that old Dresser. But these numbers do not represent anything like this. These numbers represent people. Men and women, brothers, sons, daughters, aunts and uncles. They are Service men and women who fought in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the present War on Terror. A half a million of them who gave the Ultimate Sacrifice… THEIR LIFE. All for 1 thing, and 1 thing only… FREEDOM, Our Freedom.

They are not just numbers, they are people, and they are America’s soldiers. Who fought and died for our freedom. Men and Women who spilt their blood on the Beaches of Normandy, on Heartbreak Ridge, in the Valley of Ia Drang, and on the Streets of Fallujah in order to keep our blood from spilling here at home.

The recent terrorist attempt in New York City should serve as a reminder that this War on Terror still rages. And our men and women are still dying in far off lands in order to keep us protected at home, and to protect the freedoms that we sometimes take for granted.

So this Memorial Day, as we memorialize all those whom gave the Ultimate Sacrifice, keep in mind that every day men and women are making that same sacrifice. Remember that all those who serve, have signed on the dotted line. And have agreed to make that same sacrifice if called upon by their country to do so. No questions asked. Remember your cousin, your son, your daughter, your friend, or like me, your brothers on this Memorial Day, and honor those soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice through them.

Doc’s Motorcycle Parts is a proud supporter of our troops and on this coming Memorial Day, a sacred ceremony to honor our fallen heroes, we pause to honor our servicemen and servicewomen who gave their lives in the cause of liberty. Doc’s also invites everyone to come down to Doc’s on Sunday May 30th at 11:30 am and take part in Waterbury’s Memorial Day Parade to honor the fallen. Around the World on 70 Year Old Motorcycles

Two men, two motorcycles, and 70,000 kilometers, (approximately 44,000 miles). The KCCD2009 (King Croesus Contempt for Death) trip on two 1937 Danish Nimbus motorcycles with sidecars got its start in April, 2009 when two regular guys Tormod Amlien, 30, and Klaus Ulvestad, 43, of Norway quit their jobs and began the jo…urney. The ride started in Norway, and continued through Siberia, Alaska, and North America. The two plan to travel on through the United States and South America, where a boat will take them to South Africa. In South Africa they will travel through the continent up to Europe.
But today Tormod Amlien and Klaus Ulvestad of Norway made their way to Doc’s Motorcycle Parts in Waterbury Ct.
Doc’s was glad to welcome them here, both where in great spirits and are very friendly guys who truly love motorcycling.
Check out their story at their website at:kccd.no
